This is my first time to participate in the #100words challenge from Tara at Thin Spiral Notebook. I only allowed myself 30 minutes to write this little story and it is a fun fiction exercise. The word for this challenge is Recluse.
She passed 3B every time she climbed the winding stairs to her 4th floor walk up. Sometimes she left some fruit in a bag on the door, other times it was a tin of freshly ground coffee. It was okay that the door didn’t open; she knew it was appreciated. Kate would never forget the kind eyes that lived behind the door. It was those eyes that changed her forever that night in October. One impossibly small gesture that one could never see coming but that would alter their lives in a most immeasurable and wonderful way.
And she smiled.
